ACP cuts sod for construction of Police Church

Tamale, Jan 12, GNA- Mr George Oppong, Assistant Commissioner of Police, on Monday urged officers and men of the Service to constantly seek the guidance of God in their duties of maintaining law and order. He said the Police Service needed divine intercession to carry out the task of maintaining law and order in the country, adding: We need spiritual nourishment to inspire us to work in the best interest of the society".

Mr Oppong said this at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a Police Church in Tamale.

The church, estimated to cost about 120 million cedis, would accommodate 1,000 worshippers and would take five months to complete. Mr Iddrisu Sunday, Managing Director of Sunday Construction Limited in Tamale had provided building materials for the construction of the church.

The Rev David Ampah-Bennin, the Northern Regional Deputy Police Commander who initiated the project, said the region was the last in the country to have a church.

''When completed it would serve as an inter-denominational facility for the Police, the Prisons and people in the Tamale Metropolis.''
