AES District inaugurates three Area Councils

Awutu Obrachire (C/R) May 10, GNA-The Presiding Member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya (AES) District Assembly, Mr. Alex Afenyo Markin on Wednesday urged members of the Area Councils in the district not to allow their political affiliations hinder them from performing their duties.

He has therefore urged them to work as a team towards the development of their areas to improve the living standard of the people. Mr. Markin was inaugurating the Obrachire, Bontrase and Jeikrodua Area Councils at separate ceremonies at Bontrase, Jei Krodua and Awutu Obrachire.

He reminded the members of the non-partisan nature of the district Assemblies, Unit committees and Area Councils, adding, "you should put aside your political ideas and discharge your duties in accordance with the laid down regulations".

The Presiding Member urged them to cooperate with their chiefs and their elders because it is through togetherness that they would be peace and development in their communities.

He asked them to prepare their development plan to be incorporated in the district's 2008 budget and development master plan to enhance the speedy development of the district.

Mrs. Emelia Allan, Bawjiase Area Manager of Plan Ghana promised that her outfit would provide 50 million cedis to the district Assembly towards a capacity building workshop for members of the councils. She said last year Plan Ghana, an NGO supported the AES District with similar amount in capacity development of six Area councils while 77 million cedis was also expended in the training and equipping 273 Unit committees members drawn from forty communities in the district. Mr. David Pobee, Assembly member for Bontrase was elected chairman for 17-member Awutu Bontrase Area Council, while Mr. William Baidoo, assembly Member for Jei Krodua was also elected chairman for the 20-member Jei Krodua Council.
