Winneba, Aug 10, GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly (AESDA) collected 436.251,911.06 cedis, representing 31 per cent in the first quarter of this year out of the total budgeted revenue of 1.429.500.000 cedis.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Solomon Abam-Quaye, said this at a meeting of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly at Winneba. He described the revenue mobilization situation for the first quarter as fairly good but said, "a lot more work will have to be done to enable the assembly achieve it targets".
The DCE mentioned the movement of traders from the old Kasoa market to the new site, operation of an illegal market at Kasoa Zongo, non valuation of properties in the district, under invoicing and lack of commitment on the part of revenue collectors as some the constraints hindering revenue collection.
Mr Abam-Quaye said the assembly was negotiating with private firms for the privatisation of property rate collection.
The DCE said sanitation continued to constitute a big challenge to the Assembly especially in Winneba and Kasoa.
He said assembly had a number of sanitation trucks and equipment but the greatest problems were the high cost of operation and maintenance of the equipment.
