AFAG congratulates CPP

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA - The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) on Monday congratulated the Convention People's Party (CPP) for a successful congress and election of National Executives to steer affairs of the party.

It said the election of Miss Christina Samia Yaba Nkrumah, MP for Jomoro as National Chairperson of the Party, clearly demonstrated the growth of democracy to accept women into mainstream Ghanaian Politics.

This was contained in a congratulatory message issued by Davis Opoku Ansah, Director of Research and Development in Accra.

"Indeed, the first woman in Africa to be elected to the position of National Chairman of political party is a Ghanaian and we must be proud of that."

"We urge them to continue in the process of strengthening our democracy by providing a strong and credible opposition, one that provides alternative ideas and ready to argue based on issues," it added.

In another development, AFAG congratulated Ghanaian journalists who received awards at the 16th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards in Accra.

It said the media had an important role in enhancing democracy in Ghana and over the years, it had demonstrated amidst some challenges, their commitment to ensure democracy was attained in the country.

"We urge all recipients not to relent in the fight in improving the lots of Ghanaians," it added.
