NPP National Organiser, Nana B
The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has called for drastic action against Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General, suggesting that he either resign or be removed from office.
This remark came after a detailed reference to Ghana’s Constitution and concerns over the Attorney General’s performance in the discharge of his duties.
In an interview on Joy News, monitored by MyNewsGh, Nana B highlighted the core responsibilities of the Attorney General as outlined in Article 88 of Ghana’s Constitution.
He pointed out that the Attorney General serves as the principal legal advisor to the government and has a wide range of duties, including the initiation and conduct of criminal and civil prosecutions on behalf of the state.
“The Attorney General shall be responsible for the initiation and conduct of all prosecutions of criminal offenses. All offenses prosecuted in the name of the Republic of Ghana shall be at the suit of the Attorney General,” Nana B quoted from the Constitution.
He further emphasized that the Attorney General is not only tasked with representing the state in court but also holds authority in civil cases involving the state.
He also noted that the Attorney General is required to have audience in all courts in Ghana, indicating the level of influence and responsibility the office holds within the legal system.
Despite these constitutional expectations, Nana B suggested that the Attorney General had fallen short of his obligations, with accusations of corruption and inefficiency looming over his office.
The remarks follow public criticisms from individuals such as Gomoa Central MP, Kwame A-Plus, who previously labeled Dr Ayine as corrupt.
