AG to determine next steps after National Cathedral forensic audit

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that forensic audit report into the National Cathedral project has been submitted to the Attorney General for reviewing.

According to him, the report was received by the Attorney General on Friday, August 7, 2026, and is currently being studied to determine the next steps.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam on Thursday, August 13, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu said the forensic audit was commissioned after an earlier audit by Deloitte and Touche uncovered financial irregularities.

He explained that while the initial audit identified problems with the project’s finances, it did not provide enough information on persons responsible or whether the transactions were lawful.

“Deloitte and Touche audited the financial reports of the National Cathedral, which revealed financial irregularities, but it didn’t tell all the issues,” he said.

Therefore, authorities have decided to conduct a forensic audit to establish those responsible for the irregularities and determine whether the transactions were carried out legally.

“So, we had to go further and do the forensic audit to know the people who were responsible for those irregularities and whether it was lawful or not,” he said.

Kwakye Ofosu said the Attorney General subsequently authorised the Auditor-General to conduct the forensic audit, which has now been completed.

“The Attorney General received the forensic audit report last Friday and is going through it to determine the next line of action,” he stated.

He, however, stressed that he had not seen the report and would not comment on its findings until the appropriate time.

“I haven’t seen the report myself, and even if I have, I won’t speak to the issues because it is not time,” he said.

According to him, the findings of the initial audit showed that there were issues that required further investigation, with the forensic audit expected to establish who was responsible.

“But the initial report revealed that something went wrong, so the forensic will prove those responsible,” he said.

He, however, maintained that no individual would be protected if the forensic audit establishes wrongdoing.

He said the Attorney General would decide on the appropriate legal action based on the findings contained in the report.

“So, if anyone is indicted, I won’t be the one to say who should face the law or not. Based on the report, the Attorney General will take the necessary steps,” he stated.

The forensic audit is expected to provide clarity on how funds were spent on the National Cathedral project and help ensure accountability for taxpayers’ money.
