Miss Adelaide Borden, has been relieved of her post as branch secretary of the Ghana Mines Workers Union(GMU), of the Ashanti Goldfields Company, Limited (AGC), Obuasi for allegedly instigating workers to go on strike.
In addition, she has been expelled from the Union and would revert to her former position at AGC, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), between the Union and the company.
A Press Release issued in Accra, on Thursday said the National Executive Council (NEC), of GMU effected the dismissal at its two-day meeting, at Tarkwa, in the Western Region.
It said the NEC endorsed the report of a seven-member committee, set up to investigate alleged breaches of the constitution of the union, including instigating AGC workers, to embark on an industrial action.
She is also believed to have incited former contract workers, to take hostage and manhandle officials of the Union, when she was interdicted and refused to hand over.
The release said the NEC has approved of the Committee's recommendation that the office of the Secretary General of the MWU, should intensify its efforts at educating both branch union officers and members at the AGC on its activities and decisions.
It said NEC directed that the Branch Union should render an unqualified apology to the Management of the AGC, Obuasi and the National Union, in respect of the strike action.
