The general public is being warned that robbers' modus operandi now is to wear military uniforms to easily outwit credulous victims.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, “it is now a fashion for the robbers” to use the army wear as a smokescreen to attack and rob citizens of their belongings at their residence or in public.
“…In it [uniform] they think they are safe and they also induce some fear in their victims. On December 4, 2014 at about 4.30am nine men dressed in military uniform [and] armed with pump action guns, attacked a mining site at Abrokyire and robbed them of an unspecified amount of money,” the deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo Duku told the media in Kumasi.
He disclosed that 14 suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising residents within the Kumasi Metropolis and its environs are in police custody.
ACP Duku said his outfit has over the past few weeks been able to track these robbers who operated in areas such as Asuofua, Obuasi, Amansie Central among other areas.
Some of the items found on the 14 suspects included locally made pistols, cartridges, substance suspected to be weed, unspecified amount of money and snatched vehicles.
