Yaw Sekyere, a 30 year old mobile phone dealer at the Orion Cinema near Circle was brutally assaulted by a member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Taskforce Team in the wee hours of Monday.

Narrating the incident to peacefmonline, Yaw Sekyere stated that the AMA taskforce demanded 10 Ghana cedis from him as a usual “fee” paid by all traders around the Orion Cinema.

Due to the fact that it was very early in the morning, he told them he had no money on him at that time since he had not made any sales yet.

According to him, the Taskforce still insisted on him paying the required “dues” especially since most of his other colleagues (traders) have paid.

He said when the taskforce team realized that he was not willing to pay the “dues”, they scattered his merchandise (stock of mobile phones worth nearly GH C4,000) and took some of his goods away leaving onlookers to steal the rest which had been strewn on the pavement.

Yaw Sekyere’s attempt to stop the AMA taskforce resulted in him being set upon with sticks and being hit with a shovel on the head by a member of the team.

The victim, who rushed to the offices of Peace FM drenched in blood, said he had reported the incident to the Police at the Neoplan Station and was given a police report to seek medical attention.
