The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has threatened to arrest all residents living along the Odaw streams who continue to dump refuse and human excreta in the river.
The AMA has come under heavy criticisms for failing to drench the river which has been choked with rubbish and other waste materials.
The assembly has however blamed the situation on residents close to the river.
Waste company Zoomlion had been contracted to clear major drainage systems in the metropolis including the Odaw River, but according to AMA, it is becoming a challenge for the company to do its work as residents keep polluting the drains.
The head of drainage maintenance unit of the AMA, Graham Saban in an interview with XYZ News said the only solution to addressing the situation is to arrest and prosecute offenders.
“It is an attitudinal problem and the only solution to this is to cause arrests”. He added “we are trying our best and we have even set up a sanitary court so we will arrest them and send them there to be prosecuted”.
