Accra, Dec 4, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor has directed the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to allow traders to sell at the Tema Station in Accra until Christmas was over. The directive was in response to various appeals made by the traders to the President to intervene on their behalf after a decongestion exercise by the AMA in October, Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, AMA Chief executive announced at a meeting with the traders in Accra on Tuesday.

Mr. Adjiri Blankson advised the traders to mount standard tables and to co-operate with the Assembly by not invading the lorry parks and keeping the market clean. He also urged the traders to be watchdogs against those traders who use the market as homes and engaged in all sorts of unscrupulous activities.

The AMA Boss further expressed concern over the abandonment of the hawkers market at Odawna, saying, " hawkers should see the hawkers market as a big investment by the AMA since apart from China, Ghana is the only country that has this facility. Mr Adjiri Blankson announced the reintroduction of the Sunday market in the capital to boost trading activities, adding that the initiative would soon be conducted on pilot basis.
