AMA cleans circle interchange

As part of government’s agenda to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in collaboration with traders operating in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange, has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in the area.

The traders and members of drivers unions, numbering about 500, started the clean-up exercise at 6am.

They swept the stalls and walk ways in the area.

“See how attractive this place has been this morning, and only heavens can tell what it will turn into hours after the exercise,” an observer stated.

Moses Abor, Head of the RRU, who commended representatives of the various traders associations, which include Used Phones Dealers Association (UPDA) and Circle Youth Traders for their massive turn out for the clean-up exercise, stated that the exercise would be held every two weeks.

Mr. Abor, who is also vying for the position of the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer in the ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP), called on both owners of shops in the mall and other locations along the interchange, to manage their waste properly.

He encouraged them to drop their waste in the bins placed along the walkways and the forecourt of shops.

The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah, who observed the exercise briefly with the management of the VIP Transport Services, urged to sanitize the terminal.

He further advised them to enhance security at the terminal, and clear the forecourt of hawkers, taxi drivers and other motorists.

He warned that the assembly would not take kindly to any haphazard arrangements at the VIP Bus terminal.

A number of the participants, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, expressed their intention to sustain the exercise and sensitize people to manage their waste properly.
