Karni (Upper West Region), Oct. 13 Twenty old dams in the Upper West region are to be rehabilitated to promote dry season gardening, inland fishing and livestock production. Five new dams are also to be constructed for the youth to engage in vegetable production to stem their influx to the south. Mr. Zinebuba Lankono, project coordinator of the Upper West Agricultural Development Project (UWADEP) said this at the inauguration of a 13 member executive of the Karni Water Users Association at Karni in the Jirapa/Lambussie district. He said 104 million cedis is to be spent on canals, drains and fencing of the dams. Mr. Lankono appealed to farmers who have been given loans by UWADEP to repay them. Mr. Jacob Boon, Jirapa/Lambussie district chief executive, called on the community to take good care of the dams. The Regent of Karni, Naa Bechibe Yaayiri, appealed for farm inputs for members of the association.
