As “Notre Voie” exposes the real motive behind his September 11 trip to Ivory Coast

The controversial campaign funding, logistics and vehicles being received by the flag bearer of the opposition new patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo from the Ivorian leader, Alassane Quattara has taken a new dimension as an Ivorian newspaper “Notre Voie”, accused Abedi Pele of facilitating President Quattara’s financing of NPP. An article titled “Funding of the campaign of the opponent of John Dramani: the suspicious mission of Abedi Pele in Abidjan”, which appeared on 19th October, 2012 edition of the newpaper “Notre Voie”, has alleged that the real reason for Abedi Pele’s meeting with President Quattara on 11th September, 2012 in Abidjan was to facilitate financial assistance by the Ivorian government towards the campaign of Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the article, Abedi Pele, had stated after the meeting that he was I Abidjan at the invitation of President Quattara and that they had discussed issues relating to football as well as the fortunes of his two sons playing professional football in France. The newspaper however expressed skepticism over the professed reason for the visit, insisting that Abedi Pele was actually in Abidjan to serve as the conduit for financial assistance to the NPP flagbearer.

The article noted that the Quattara government considers the current Ghanaian government to be uncooperative, particularly in the matter of the extradition of exiled pro-Gbagbo supporters who are alleged to engaged in acts to destabilize Cote d’Ivoire from Ghana. It added that the Quattara government would therefore be happy if President John Mahama lose the December election elections.

The article recalled that under ex-president Gbagbo, the issue of maritime border demarcation between Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana was about to be settled in an amicable manner, but things have clearly changed under President Quattara.

It would be recalled that this newspaper broke the news on Nana Akufo-Addo turning to Quattara for Cash, logistics and campaign vehicles to support his presidential bid, which is in clear violation of the electoral rules on campaign funding.

Nana Akufo Addo campaign team took delivery of 200 pick-ups, and 60 new land cruisers as well as 20million france from Allasane Ouattara to aid its campaign.
