Abide by Code of Conduct, Civil Servants told

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, has tasked civil servants to be abreast of the Civil Service Code of Conduct in order not to go contrary to it.

He said many civil servants had become political activists with the ambition of disrupting government programmes and warned them to stop that attitude or face the consequences.

Nii Afotey-Agbo gave the warning when he interacted with the staff of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as part of his visit to acquaint himself with progress work in the region.

He said: “As a Regional Minister my role is to ensure peace and promote rapid development of the region. No one is asking anybody not to do politics but if you have any political ambition, you need to do things right because you are serving the people.

“Each person in the Civil Service accepted personal responsibility for development, to exhibit a strong work ethic and affirm his or her commitment to ensure that government policies are carried out effectively.”

Nii Afotey-Agbo said the Constitution of Ghana conferred the right on all citizens to join political parties of their choice and maintain the confidence of any future government but not to indicate publicly one’s support for any political party or engage in activities likely to bring any government programme in jeopardy.

The Regional Minister later addressed chiefs of the Ga Traditional Council who also paid a courtesy call on Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, to express their concerns on ongoing development in the metropolis.

Nii Afotey-Agbo urged the Ga chiefs to resolve to close their ranks, bury their differences and encourage the youth to rally behind government policies, programmes and social interventions designed to create job opportunities to alleviate poverty instead of litigations which had become rampant in the region.

He assured the people that government would not shirk its responsibility in the areas of education, health and economic advancement of the country.

Dr Vanderpuije urged the AMA workers to work hard to deliver on the Better Ghana Agenda.

The Accra Mayor and the Regional Minister later cut a sod for the construction of a new 18-classroom block Millennium City School at Abavana Down in the Ayawaso Central District, bringing the number of the educational facility to eight in the community.
