Abiesikrom To Spend 4.2mC On Wells

Coaltar(E/R) The people of Abiesikrom, near Coaltar in the Eastern region, have so far spent more than three million cedis on three wells estimated at 4.2 million cedis. Conducting the GNA round the wells during communal labour on Wednesday, Nana Kumi Abiesi the First, chief of the town, said the project is being carried out through contributions of 2,000 cedis a man and 1,000 cedis a woman. Nana Kumi said River Abiesi, the only source of good drinking water for the people, sometimes dries up before the dry season sets in. Mr Kwaku Amoah, assemblyman for the area, commended the people for their communal spirit and called on the Suhum-Kraboa Coaltar District Assembly and the Akropong Akuapem Water Aid to assist them to complete the project on time. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Kwadjo Anoma, a farming community near Coaltar in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District, are also sinking a well at a cost of 1.2 million cedis. According to Nana Ofori Anomah the Second, chief of the town, an amount of 80,000 cedis has been spent already while the people have raised an additional 40,000 cedis from levies of 1,000 cedis a man and 500 cedis a woman towards the project. Mr Freeman Agbesi, assemblyman for the town who paid them a visit during communal labour, commended them for their effort and appealed to the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation and non- governmental organizations to go to their aid.
