Abiola Bawuah nominated for the Women Empowerment category

The Abiola Bawuah Foundation (ABF) is pleased to announce that Abiola Bawuah has been nominated for the Women Empowerment Category of the Millennium Excellence Awards 2020. This comes as a result of her outstanding support for women empowerment by empowering girls, especially in rural communities.

Currently, over 70 girls in the Ashanti, Central and Greater Accra regions have been sent back to school with the aid of benevolent donors such as FanMilk Ghana Limited, Unilever Ghana Limited, Lexta Ghana Limited, UNFPA etc.

Upon hearing her nomination, Mrs. Abiola Bawuah expressed, “It’s refreshing! Not because I have been nominated for the Women Empowerment Category but that, the diligent work we are doing at Abiola Bawuah Foundation will be recognised. We are empowering girls for a promising future.”

It is upon this premise that ABF relentlessly empowers girls with education. ABF is aligned to the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 to promote gender equality. By so doing, we bridge the educational spill gap between males and females in our communities especially, the rural areas and reduce female school dropouts. ABF, therefore, transcends geographical, religious and physical borders to lend a hand.

Abiola Bawuah Foundation is chaired by Mrs. Elizabeth Hayfron Asare and a board of trustees; Mrs. Oluseun Jooda, Mrs. Nkechie Denise, Nana Hemaa Adwoa Awindor and Mrs. Abiola Bawuah with a project coordinator, Mr. Stephen Asiedu and a project officer, Ms. Geraldine Osafo Ntiri.

Abiola Bawuah is a registered, not-for-profit organisation which operates from its offices Kokomlemle. Founded on 29th September, 2018 by Mrs. Abiola Bawuah and our esteemed trustees. The organisation is devoted to helping deprived, vulnerable and disadvantaged girls access high-quality education and to have access to the basic necessities which will also aid them in achieving a worthwhile future through educational mentoring.

On account of her life’s journey chronicled in her book, “Chosen from the Darkness,” Mrs. Abiola Bawuah came from a community of stark and conservative cultural practices which subordinated the female gender. Her ability to have risen in the face of cruel societal pressure and through the ranks of leadership forms a part of ABF’s passion to empower women.

“We continue our dedication to increase the number of deprived and disadvantaged girls the foundation can support,” Mrs. Abiola Bawuah has said during last year’s press briefing.

We are therefore open to funding and support from donors and activist groups who are passionate as we are.
