The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described as "unfortunate, wicked and malicious" allegations that he smuggled Ho Polytechnic into the first set of Polytechnics to be converted into technical universities.
The allegations were made against the deputy minister by the Coalition of Central regional Youth that he had smuggled the Ho polytechnic into the list to the detriment of the Cape Coast Polytechnic.
According to them, the Cape Coast polytechnic deserved to be among the first list of polytechnics to be converted into technical universities and not the Ho polytechnic.
However, speaking at the 12th congregation ceremony of Koforidua Polytechnic on Saturday, Mr Ablakwa stated that the conversion process was done in a scientific, objective and transparent manner by independent committees made up of experts led by Dr. George Afedzi.
He added that there was a stakeholder validation made up of Rectors of polytechnics, POTAG, TEWU, AGI and many others to scrutinize the recommendations made by Dr. Afedzi led committee.
According to him, it would be erroneous for anyone to suggest that he has smuggled a polytechnic into the list since the process was very transparent.
