Mavis Hawa Koomson, former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, has disclosed that she is yet to receive justice after being assaulted by thugs during the Ablekuma North rerun.
In an interview with Asaasepa Radio on August 27, 2026, Koomson disclosed that she is yet to get justice after she was brutally assaulted by some thugs during an election exercise.

She added that she could not confirm if any processes were underway to secure the justice she needed.
“I have not yet received justice. I am unsure whether any processes are ongoing to secure it, but as we speak, I am still waiting," she noted.
Recalling what led to the assault, she said she was in Kumasi when the former MP for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, called to inform her about the rerun and asked her to come and support her.
She said upon arriving she began touring the area, and interacting with party officials whilst observing proceedings.
"At the time, I was in Kumasi when my sister, Akua Afriyie, called to inform me about the rerun and asked that I come to support her. I arrived around 9 am, called her, and she told me she was elsewhere. While driving near the traffic light, I noticed a polling station nearby and decided to observe for myself," she narrated.
She continued that: "I had already visited four polling centres, where I met Mustapha Gbande and had good conversations, before moving to a fifth centre where I encountered Sammy Awuku and other party officials. Later, I stepped out to head to another centre where Darkoa Newman was stationed," she added.

Hawa Koomson stated that when she arrived at the fifth polling station, where Darkoa Newman was present, police officers at the gate insisted she could not enter with her entourage.
This, she said, prompted her to question what would happen if she came under attack.
However, the police officers assured her of her safety. Yet, less than ten minutes later, Hawa Koomson said she found herself being attacked.
"When I arrived, the police insisted I could not enter with my entourage. I explained that I could not go alone for fear of being attacked, but they assured me I would be safe, so I went inside," she disclosed.
"Barely ten minutes later, I heard someone asking, ‘Where is Hawa Koomson?’ Another person in a pickup pointed me out, and suddenly they all pounced on me. I was shocked, wondering why they had come at me in that manner," she added.
"Despite the attack, I am glad I was able to defend myself, and I have no regrets,” Hawa Koomson pronounced.
