The Minister for Energy Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has said that arrangements for financing the 160 million dollars steam components of the (CMS) part of the Aboadze Thermal Complex is progressing steadily. He said the project known as TZ Plant will be financed by the International Community to make the operation of the Plant more cost effective.

Dr. Nduom was interacting with workers of VRA and Technical International Co-operation (T. C. O.) at Aboadze Thermal Plant when he paid a one day familiarisation and working visit to the plant. He noted that the Power Sector Reform strategy is a joint venture company between the VRA and TCO and would operate the Thermal Plant Complex at Aboadze.

To this end, he said a Reform secretariat has been formed to sample views from cross section of the public to ensure extensive consultation and education on legal, labour and financial matters of the reform.

He lauded comments from the VRA Senior Staff Association of the VRA union, the management group and several individuals from the ECG and others about the Power Reform Strategy.

Dr. Nduom allayed the fears of the workers of possible redundancy and redeployment of labour in view of the merger. He said both plants will remain the pivot of power generation and position of both management and staff shall be maintained to the mutual benefit of all while services provided by the auxiliary staff shall be maintained.

On the current case of the Chief Executive, Dr. Charles Yves Wereko Brobby and the Board, Dr. Nduom disclosed that decisions on the matter will be made by the President and will be based solely on what is in the best interest of VRA and Ghana, noting that VRA is a strategic national asset and issues such as this should be dealt with and presented in a rational and careful manner.

He commended management and workers for their skill and expertise but cautioned them to exercises maximum restraint in whatever decisions and actions they take in the execution of their responsibilities as workers of VRA.
