Abokyikrom clinic inaugurated

Abokyikrom(E/R), Oct.11, GNA - A 16,000 Euros clinic for the people of Abokyikrom in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region was inaugurated on Monday.

The clinic was funded by the STICHTING Kwahu-Ghana, a Holland-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that had supported the community with 71,000 Euros for development projects.

These included construction of a six-classroom block with teacher's quarters, purchasing low tension poles and cables for their electrification project the establishment of a carpentry workshop to train the youth in the community to utilize the large wood resources of the area.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, inaugurating the clinic asked Ghanaians to work hard and overcome difficulties for the country to achieve economic prosperity.

Mr Barimah called on parents to take advantage of the Government's fee-free basic education policy to send their children to school and support them to learn hard.

The Eastern Regional Minister commended the people of Holland for their support towards Ghana's development and gave the assurance that electricity would be extended to the area soon. He said rehabilitation of roads in the area would be a priority project next year.

The Member of Parliament for Abirem, Ms Esther Obeng-Dapaah, promised to provide learning aids to the local Kindergarten and provide scholarships from her share of the Common Fund to support brilliant but needy children from the area who would qualify for the university. She said efforts had been made to extend electricity from the national grid to the rest of the constituency not connected and feeder roads in the constituency would also be rehabilitated.

The District Chief Executive of Birim North, Nana Acquah Frimpong, called on the people to organise regular communal labour to clean and maintain the clinic.

The chief of Abokyikrom, Nana Abankwah Ababio, appealed to the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council to assist in the provision of accommodation for those nurses to be posted to the clinic. He also appealed to the Government for the rehabilitation of the Gyamasi Number Two to Kyenkyenku road to enable farmers in the area transport their produce to marketing centres.
