The man who stood surety for Joseph Drah, the self-styled abortion specialist at Universal Mission Clinic who allegedly bonked women before aborting their babies, has been given up to January 21 to produce the doctor to stand trial.

He was granted a GH¢10,000 bail with one surety.

The surety was summoned by an Accra High Court after the accused had failed to appear before the court presided over by Justice Abdulai Iddrisu, for a continuation of his trial on illegal abortion and operating an abortion clinic without licence.

Ace investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who is the brain behind a video on the accused, had testified in court about how the video recording on the doctor having sex with his victims without condom got into his hands.

Drah has been charged with five counts of abortion and operating a facility without licence; but he pleaded not guilty to the charges, denying any wrongdoing.

The principal state attorney, Mrs. Evelyn Keelson, who presented the facts of the case, said in March 2012 Anas had information about the Drah operating a health facility without a licence so his activities were made known.

She stated that a video of the accused was released in which he was having sexual intercourse with some women shortly before performing the abortions on them.

According to Mrs. Keelson, the police were alerted, and they immediately proceeded to the place and found the accused operating the said medical facility.

The principal state attorney disclosed that a search conducted at the medical facility revealed a container containing human blood, medical instruments and assorted drugs and so Drah was consequently arrested.

In addition, she said the suspect also admitted to operating the facility without a licence and was consequently arraigned after police had concluded investigations.
