A group of spare parts dealers in Abossey Okai has accused certain leaders of Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association of being compromised by Government.

The group's leader Mr Kwabena Somuah chastised some of their leaders of being in bed with the current administration which is affecting their leadership roles and performance.

He said many of their leaders who hitherto stood firm against certain unfavourable decisions by the past administration, have started fumbling and acting as spokespersons for Government instead of reminding government to keep to the promises they made in opposition. According to Mr Somuah, the taxes the government is removing are not the entire duties as promised the dealers. He said from the documents received, import VAT and import NHIL will stay meaning there isn't going to be any significant reduction in the overall duty they will pay on their imported goods.

He said, the decision to exclude car tyre importers, battery and other parts importers from the arrangement is most unfortunate and deceitful.

The group's leader said modalities in the new bill (law) do not represent what was promised them which inspired most of them to contribute to the Npp campaign in 2016.

He accused the current Chairman Mr Siaw Ampadu and his henchmen of being Insensitive to their plight because of their clandestine deals with the government.

He said, the Chairman and his opportunistic friends have now constituted themselves into Tax collectors (officials) of government who lead GRA officials to stores of the dealers.

Mr Somuah appealed to government to immediately halt retail activities by foreigners at the place. He accused some of their leaders of being behind that unlawful activity.

He warned leaders of the Association that the group which has thousands of supporters across all the spare parts and car tyre dealers’ joints across the country, will break away from the mother association if leadership continue with its hypocritical stance on issues concerning their business.

According to Mr Somuah, when their leadership met the former President prior to the election, they enumerated some of these problems to him which led to the closure of many of the shops owned by foreigners.

These foreigners have returned to the place all because of their support they receive from some of their leaders who have rented their stores to them to do their illicit business he said.
