The Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has 54 judicial cases comprising 44 petitions and eight appeals pending before it, Pemampem Yaw Kagbrese V, President of the House, has said.

He said the high number of cases were the result of slow pace at which Judicial Committees of the House resolved and disposed of cases as well as the readiness of feuding parties and their counsels to avail themselves of judicial processes as well as financial challenges of the House also contributed to the situation.

Pemampem Kagbrese, the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area in the Pru District, who was addressing the end-of-year general meeting of the House in Sunyani appealed to members of the Judicial Committee to ensure amicable settlement of all cases for peace to prevail.

“I want to plead with Nananom who have been appointed to adjudicate on these cases, even though faced with numerous challenges in their traditional areas as well as parties and their counsels to be proactive, to prevent these cases from degenerating into uncontrollable situations.”

He therefore, appealed to factions in disputes to allow the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism (ADRM) which ensures a quicker win-win solution to disputes.

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, affirmed the ADRM and urged the chiefs to endeavour to settle the cases pending before the House for an enabling environment to accelerate the Region’s development.

He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people in the Region as well as members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for their contributions in diverse ways for a peaceful Election 2012.

Mr Nyamekye-Marfo gave account of his stewardship since 2009, saying that period had ensured massive social and economic development in education, health, provision of potable water, road and electricity infrastructure projects in the Region under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government.

He gave the assurance that all on-going developmental projects in the Region would be completed while new projects undertaken.
