The High Court in Accra has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, after he was remanded in custody on charges of false publication.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com on May 21, 2026, the outspoken politician returned to court on a motion seeking bail pending trial, in a case that has drawn significant public and political attention.

Abronye’s legal team, led by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, argued for his release while the case continues.

“We move in terms of the motion paper and pray that the applicant be granted bail pending trial,” counsel for the applicant submitted.

In court, Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, who represented the prosecution, told the judge that the country did not oppose the application.

The court subsequently admitted Abronye to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

As part of the conditions attached to his release, the court directed him to report to the Police CID once every two weeks, surrender all travel documents, and seek permission from the Registrar before travelling outside the jurisdiction.

Supporters of the NPP communicator, who had gathered around the court premises, appeared visibly relieved after the ruling.

His earlier remand into custody had triggered criticism from sections of the NPP, as well as, some legal analysts, who argued that the decision infringed on his constitutional rights.

The case is expected to continue in the coming weeks as prosecutors pursue the false publication charges against the controversial political figure.
