The Electoral Commission has set March 29 for a by-election to replace the slain Abuakwa North Member of Parliament Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
The move is in respect of Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
The commission earlier dismissed reports that it had slated the election for April 5.
A statement announcing the date for the poll said “Following the death of the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu and in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a by-election in the constituency on Tuesday, the 29th Day of March, 2016”.
The New Patriotic Party MP was stabbed several times whiles sleeping in his East Legon residence in Accra on February 9.
A 19-year-old teenage Daniel Asiedu who has confessed to the crime is being tried by the State.

PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION – ABUAKWA NORTH CONSTITUENCY
Following the death of the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu and in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a by-election in the constituency on Tuesday, the 29th Day of March, 2016.
Nominations for the election will be taken on Tuesday the 1st day of March and Wednesday the 2nd day of March, 2016 at the District Office of the Commission at Tafo in the Eastern Region, from 9:00am to 12:00noon and 2:00pm to 5:00pm both days.
Nomination forms may be obtained from the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission at Koforidua.
Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background, showing the full face and both ears.
The filing fee for the election is One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000.00).
All interested candidates and political parties are to take note and be guided accordingly.
