Bekwai(Ash), Aug. 23, GNA – Mr Martin Ayensu-Nipa, the manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has said the acceptance of the scheme’s capitation is on the rise in the Asante-Bekwai Municipality.

In an interview with the GNA, he said within the last two weeks 50 per cent of the scheme’s 70,000 registered clients had moved on to the new payment system.

The capitation, which is designed to remove delays in the refund of claims, allows clients to choose their “preferred primary provider” for the scheme to make advance payment towards their health treatment in the facility.

Mr Ayensu-Nipa said everything was being done to assist people to have a better understanding of how the policy worked.

He said a total 135 NHIS collection agents in 300 communities were receiving training to enrol clients for the capitation.

He said when fully operational, this would significantly reduce paperwork and prevent late payment of insurance claims to service providers more so the abuse of the system would be checked.

Mr Ayensu-Nipa described the capitation as a laudable intervention and called on all insurance card holders to help make it work.
