Twenty two persons lost their lives in motor accidents on the Tarkwa-Enchi road in 2014, as against 42 deaths in 2013, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu-Broni, Tarkwa- Nsueam Divisional Commander of the MTTU, has said.

The MTTU commander said 72 road accidents were recorded in the Municipality last year, resulting in 22 deaths and 53 injuries as compared to the 92 accidents recorded with 42 deaths and 78 injuries in 2013.

In an interview with the GNA at Tarkwa on Tuesday, he said the reduction in the number of casualties in road crashes was the result of strategic road safety measures his outfit instituted in the municipality.

ASP Honu Broni said to enable his outfit to achieve zero per cent accident rate in the Municipality, police officers will deal severely with drunk drivers and those who speed unnecessarily.

He, therefore, entreated both private and commercial drivers to observe road safety measures on the road.
