Nkoranza (B/A) Sep. 7 GNA - The Controller and Accountant General's Department has failed to transfer more than 100 million cedis (GHC10,000) it deducted at source from teachers' salaries to the bank account of Nkoranza District Teachers Welfare Club. Mr Adjei Yeboah, District Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) chairman, told the staff of the District Directorate of Eeducation at Nkoranza in Thursday.

He said for the past 10 months, all efforts made to retrieve the money from the Department had not been successful and this had made the Club to face financial problems.

Nkoranza District has 1,200 teachers and members of the Club pay monthly dues of 10,000 cedis.

Mr Yeboah said a delegation of the Executive of the club led by Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu would proceed to Accra on the issue for the retrieval of the money. Mr Paul Baffoe-Ansah, District GNAT Secretary, called on District Directors of Education to consider the plight of teachers and to support them.

He urged teachers to lead lives worthy of emulation and to avoid negative practices as role models in the communities. The Secretary warned that the National Secretariat of the Association would not countenance undisciplined acts by members. Mr Baffoe-Ansah advised teachers to attach great importance to their work and to work assiduously to command respect as belonging to a noble profession.

He called on Circuit Supervisors to report problems of teachers to the office for assistance towards their solution. The Reverend Kubi Asuamah Yeboah, Assistant Director in-charge of Finance and Administration, who presided, advised teachers to work as a team to promote education.

He urged the GNAT Secretary to pay regular visits to the Directorate and share ideas for the growth and development of education.
