Accra, July 6, GNA - The Accra District Office of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the auspices of Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology would organise this year's Greater Accra Regional World Environment Day (WED) in Accra.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday and signed by Ms Stella Okoh-Ofosu, officer in-charge of Public Affairs at EPA, said this year's global celebration was under the theme: "Many Species, One Planet, One Future" and that the national theme was "Many Species, One Ghana, One Future".

WED was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) also created in 1972, uses WED to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and public action. In commemoration of the day, the EPA in conjunction with authorities of the University of Ghana would embark on tree planting exercises along sections of the University boundary. 6 July 10
