President Akufo-Addo has said he is “disturbed” about the incident at the Accra Mall Thursday, 11 October 2018.
The ceiling at the mall square of the popular shopping centre in the capital caved in causing fear and panic among shoppers.
Officials say at least three people “sustained minor” injuries with the police and fire service personnel arriving at the scene to avert chaos.
Tweeting from the US on an official working visit, president Akufo-Addo decried the poor maintenance culture in the country, urging facility managers to “improve our maintenance culture.”
He also wished the injured “speedy recovery.”
The Accra Mall is a shopping center in Accra, located on the Spintex road adjacent to the Tema Motorway. The mall was commissioned on July 4, 2008. It is one of the most modern shopping malls in West Africa and the first large-scale shopping centre in Ghana.
I am disturbed to hear of the incident at the Accra Mall. Let us all work together to improve our maintenance culture. Speedy recovery to the injured.
