The Greater Accra branch of the New Patriotic Party is incensed with National Executive Council (NEC) of the party for failing to circulate proposed reforms to regional officials of the party.

Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe told Joy News they will use all legal means, including filing a motion on the floor of congress to make their proposals known.

By the party’s constitution, the NEC is mandated to circulate proposed amendments to all regional officials for consideration and approval before Congress.

According to Mr. Crabbe the move will strengthen the party at the grassroots level and promote unity.

One of their proposals is the streamlining of appointments into political offices which Mr. Crabbe says will ensure patronage.

“If somebody wants to be a political appointee, even in government or on boards, it’s very important to know who that person really is. That is what we propose. We think this will make people to rise above pettiness, to unite and get people to come down to the constituencies and polling stations to actually work.”

“If you are not known and somebody recommends you from the top, say the president, your people around your polling station will not endorse you,” he said.

Asked if the Greater Accra Branch is in support of the proposed name change, from New Patriotic Party to National Patriotic Party, Mr Crabbe said the NEC is in a better position to answer the question.

He would not want to prejudice the decision to be taken by the NEC.
