Accra Secondary Technical Director On Trial for Defrauding Students

Francis Darko, the Director of Accra Secondary Technical College at Mamprobi has been arraigned before a circuit court in Accra for allegedly defrauding 150 final year students of the school of ¢120 million.

According to the facts available to the court the accused and the Assistant Headmaster, Joseph Wilson Tetteh (now at large) in October this year collected ¢800,000 each from the 150 final year students with the intention of registering them for their final examination in June which was to be written outside Accra.

The accused persons after collecting the monies bought entry scanable forms for the registration but failed to submit them to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) .

Prosecuting Officer DSP Frimpong told the court that when the time for the examinations was approaching some of the students went to WAEC to verify their index numbers but to their dismay they found out they had not been registered for the examinations.

When the complainants demanded their money, the headmaster and his assistant fled the school and went into hiding. The headmaster was subsequently arrested from his hideout and during interrogation he admitted the offence and was charged accordingly.

The Presiding judge granted the accused a bail of ¢130 million with a surety to be justified.
