Accra awash with NPP posters

Any visitor to Accra would be forgiven for thinking that there is a national election around the corner. This is because the city is decked in posters (of different shapes, sizes and designs) of the 17 men who aspire to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party into next year's general elections.

The entrance to the University of Ghana (where party delegates will be converging to elect the presidential candidate) is where you'd find the most posters. So worrying has been the situation that the police (who have a station right opposite the university) have called for restraint.

The mayor of Accra, Stanley Adjiri Blankson has also been taken to task for allowing the candidates to erects their billboards indiscriminately whiles bringing down "unauthorised" company billboards in other parts of the city. His response? "I'm a party man," he told a local radio station and promised to have the political billboards removed after the congress. The candidates will contribute to a fund for the removal of the billboards, the mayor said.
