The Achimota School on Sunday held a thanksgiving service as a wrap up on their 91st Founders Day Celebrations to express their gratitude to God for a successful anniversary celebration.

With proud past and present students of the school gathered at the Assembly Hall, a chorus of thanksgiving filled the school’s environs; showing the depth of gratitude students and Old Students (Akora) had towards having a fruitful founders day celebration.

As part of the celebrations, in a bid to contribute their quota to the development of the school, the 1993 Year Group of Achimota Old Students Association presented their alma mater with some refurbished offices and archives and rounded up with the annual ritual of a bonfire night at the clubhouse on the schools premises, on Friday the 2nd.

Achimota School, also known as ‘Motown’ is a coeducational boarding school, well known as a school that has produced great assets who have contributed tremendously to the nation’s growth and a school that instills discipline in all its products.

The school has educated many local and international leaders, including Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Edward Akufo-Addo, Former President Jerry John Rawlings, and the Late Former President John Evans Atta Mills.

This years’ founders’ day celebration was under the theme, ‘Using the theme ‘Discipline: The Hallmark of Quality Education for the Nation Building’.

Delivering a sermon during the thanksgiving service, Acting Moderator, Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Ga Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Victor Okoe Abbey, mentioned that developing a nation was to be seen as a collective effort and not one meant only for politicians.

“Nation building is a prime vocation. It is a duty entrusted to our care by Almighty God. It is imperative that each and every one of us to sees himself or herself as one who has been called by God himself and not any other person, to participate in responsibilities and the business of nation building irrespective of one’s career and station in life. Nation building is not the work of politicians only, it is a job given to all of us by God himself," he said.

He noted that attaining this was only possible when discipline is instilled in the young ones while they were still in school, adding that, “Discipline is a training that develops, molds, strengthens or perfects mental faculties and character. Discipline makes one willing to accept orders from higher authority and carrying out those orders effectively.

You must be disciplined to achieve your goals. Without discipline, it will be very difficult to achieve any successes no matter how desirous you are to be successful.

Without discipline, it will be almost impossible to acquire that quality of education which will help you to fulfill your God-given vocation of nation-building.”
