The case involving a 17-year-old student of Achimota school, who allegedly shot a friend to death with his father’s gun at his residence in Tema has been challenged by parents at the High court who believes the three-year punishment given their son should be reviewed.
According to both parents, the murder case involving their son looks awful perhaps pleading with the Juvenile court to reconsider the tough punishment.
It was reported earlier that, a 17-year-old boy of the Achimota school allegedly shot a friend to death when he attempted to play with the father’s gun that was hidden under his bed.
According to the accused, his intention was to fire the gun in the air but unfortunately landed on his friend, Lilly Asibetse, who was cheering him on.
Gifty Billy, a neighbour who heard the gunshot, went to the scene only to see the victim lying in a pool of blood.
However, all possible means to save the victim from dying, proved futile since the victim finally gave up at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
Interrogating the sudden death of the friend, the accused told the police that he had intended shooting into the air, but the bullet changed course and hit the deceased.
The trial judge, Benardine S. A. Senoo, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to a 3-year jail term at the Borstal home institute.
