Kwasi Amoah, the young miner who doused a 29-year-old footballer in acid over flirting allegations, has been jailed by the Bekwai Ciurcut Court in the Ashanti Region.

Yaw Beeko from Asante-Akyem was disfigured after being attacked on November 11, 2012 around 12: 30 pm at Manso Kwabenaso in the Amansie West District for allegedly flirting with the girlfriend of the convict, shortly after his arrival in the community to join his team mates for a football match.

The convict was given a 10 year sentence with hard labour by the court presided over by Daniel Kwaku Obeng, and was directed to pay a compensation of Ghc1,000 to the victim for the grievous bodily harm caused, not barring any civil action against him.

The victim was targeted for his alleged relationship with Kwasi Amoah’s girlfriend, who was living in the same house with the manager of the footballer. Prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Stephen Ofori told the court that the convict lost his cool when he became suspicious that the victim was flirting with his girlfriend and therefore poured the sulphuric acid on him.

According to the prosecution, the attack left the victim with 40 per cent burns and he nearly died as a result, and that Yaw Beeko, who had “innumerable” operations, still needed medical treatment. Detective Ofori said the victim was now blind in the left eye.
