Acquisition of motor bikes for assembly members will continue

Apam, Nov. 1, GNA - The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has assured Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies that it had not abandoned its decision to acquire motor bikes for assembly members.

Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, the President of NALAG, the last meeting of the Gomoa West District Assembly at Apam that the motor bikes programme was on course.

He said the suppliers of the bikes were demanding payment of 40 per cent of the cost before releasing them but NALAG had been able to beat it down to 15 per cent through negotiation. He said NALAG was making efforts to raise the deposit for the machines to be released.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah, who is also Gomoa West District Chief Executive, could not say whether members of the fifth assembly whose term of office ended Friday would also benefit from the supply of the motor bikes. He commended the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Mr. Francis Kojo Arthur, the Presiding Member, Mr. Fred Oscar Abban and members of the assembly for their support and hard work that enabled the assembly to chalk successes.

The DCE mentioned improvement in water supply, electricity, school infrastructure and roads as some of the assembly's great achievements. He said the Apam/Afranse road had been awarded on contract for reconstruction and work is expected to start before the end of the year. He wished the members who would be seeking re-election well and cautioned against indulging in campaigning that could disturb the peace. Mr Abban expressed gratitude to the DCE and members of the assembly for their cooperation that had made the assembly one of the most peaceful in the Central Region.

He appealed to the members who would not be re elected to place their experience at the disposal of the sixth assembly and said "the interest which moved you to serve your communities must not be lost just because you are no more in the assembly." Mr Abban dissolved the fifth assembly to pave the way for the district level election in December.
