Act decisively to punish corrupt public officials - Gado

Kumasi, Feb. 10, GNA - A leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Gado Sulemana, has urged the Government to be ruthless in its crusade to clean up the public service and restore some level of sanity= .. It should act decisively to punish public officials caught in the act of corruption, he said.

This comes in the wake of the recent exposure of the rot at the Tema Port by investigative journalist, Mr Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Alhaji Sulemana said the impunity must end if the country was to make a significant headway in terms of socio-economic development. He underlined the need for all Ghanaians to place the nation's inter= est ahead of their individual comfort and convenience.

He gave high marks to Mr Anas for what he termed 93his single and immeasurable contribution" to the fight against corruption, saying he was= a good example to society.

Alhaji Gado invited Christian and Muslim leaders to pray for God's protection for the investigative journalist. He also lauded the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Sarpong, for working hard to improve the living conditions of the people in the Metropolis. He appealed to the residents to give Mr Sarpong every necessary suppor= t and encouragement to carry through his development agenda.
