Act responsibly and avoid aiding outgoing MCEs in covering up corruption - ACEG to Mahama's transitional team

Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), a group affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that outgoing government officials, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, were involved in questionable activities, such as issuing allocation chits for customs clearance.

Speaking during a press briefing in Accra on December 17, 2024, D.S Mahama Iddrisu, the national chairman for ACEG, accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of attempting to sabotage the incoming administration by destroying documents that could expose corruption.

"The outgoing NPP government has also engaged itself in questionable activities. Despite their electoral loss, the outgoing president, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his Chief of Staff are allegedly issuing allocation chits to NPP members to clear containers at ports with the support of customs officers, this is unacceptable.

"We urge the media to remain objective and professional in their reporting. Avoid bias and refrain from becoming "stomach politicians," he said.

He added, "Coordinating Directors must act responsibly and avoid aiding outgoing MCEs in covering up corruption."

He called for accountability and transparency during the transition of the old government to the new John Dramani Mahama administration after his success in the just-ended 2024 presidential elections.

Addressing rumours about the NDC's policies, Iddrisu debunked claims that President-elect Mahama plans to cancel the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

"This is false. We encourage Ghanaians to wait and see the truth for themselves," he said.

He also outlined the group's vision for a "24-hour economy" to create immediate employment opportunities in sectors like the Passport Office, DVLA, and Ports and Harbors.
