Nyinahin (Ash), Nov. 25, GNA - A 59-year-old acting chief imam, Alhaji Tafa, has been fined GH¢ 300 by the Nyinahin Magistrate's Court for assaulting an environmental officer. Alhaji Tafa pleaded guilty to the charge and he would serve 12 months imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine. The Atwima-Mponua District Assembly Prosecutor, Mr Robert Forson told the court presided over by Mr Augustine Essah that the convict lived at Nkrumah near Adiembra in the Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti. He said on October 10 this year, environmental officers from Nyinahin organised an exercise to impound stray animals in the area. Mr Forson said Alhaji Tafa emerged from no where and asked the officers to stop the act and ordered some people to jump onto the truck in which the animals had been kept and release them. He said Alhaji Tafa then hit one of the officers who fell down in the process. The officers then reported the case to their superior. The District Assembly Prosecutor said criminal summons was issued for the arrest of Alhaji Tafa and after investigations, he was charged with the offence.
