Residents and youth in Ada have staged a demonstration alongside a formal petition to the government, calling for urgent intervention to address worsening infrastructure, healthcare and environmental challenges in the area.

The demonstration, held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, was led by a group identifying itself as Ada Youth. It formed part of a broader petition submitted to the Presidency and copied to key state institutions, outlining concerns affecting communities in the Ada enclave.

The petition was addressed to the President of Ghana at Jubilee House and highlighted what the group described as long-standing development deficits in road infrastructure, emergency healthcare response, street lighting, water supply and coastal protection.

Organisers said the demonstration was intended to draw attention to their demands and complement the written petition, rather than serve as a confrontational action.

The group cited deteriorating road networks as a major challenge, listing key routes such as the Sege–Lolonya Road, Kasseh–Ada Foah Road, Nakomkorpe–Koluedor Road, Ada Foah–Totope Road and other feeder roads linking several communities.

According to the petitioners, the poor condition of these roads continues to disrupt transportation, slow emergency response times and affect daily economic activity.

They also raised concerns about "inadequate street lighting in several communities, saying the situation poses safety risks, particularly for night travel."

The petition further called for improvements in healthcare delivery, including better-equipped health facilities, increased medical personnel, and stronger ambulance and emergency response systems.

Residents said delays in emergency response have, in some cases, worsened health outcomes.

Attention was also drawn to the state of the Kasseh Market, which the group described as congested and lacking adequate sanitation and infrastructure. They called for its modernization to improve trading conditions.

Coastal erosion was another major issue highlighted, with communities such as Akplabanya, Anyamam, Azizakpe, Aflive, and Azizanya reported to be increasingly at risk. The group urged authorities to expand and sustain ongoing sea defence interventions.

Water supply challenges were also included in the petition, with calls for improved access to potable water across affected communities.

The petitioners stated that Ada, despite its contributions through fishing, tourism, salt production, agriculture and commerce, continues to face avoidable developmental challenges.

They stressed that their action was not politically motivated but a call for urgent and practical government intervention.

The group has given government a three-week period to begin visible action on the issues raised, describing the timeframe as a window for responsiveness rather than confrontation.
