Adaklu-Akatsixoe is a remote peasant farming village located in the Ho East Constituency under the Adaklu-Anyigbe District of the Volta Region but lacks portable drinking water.

The villagers are mainly wood carvers and also produce quiet a sizeable tones of tomatoes that can be said to be a contributions to the national food basket. A visit to the village by this report was a welcomed one when the people got to know that a journalist has arrived.

Adaklu-Akatsixoe lives in abject poverty and lacks portable drinking water. They also said that the only borehole constructed by DANIDA was not well dugged and so do not produce enough water for the village as their number also keeps increasing. The borehole has to use for only thirty minutes by villagers every day and later locked up for the rest of the day in other for more or little waters to ooze from the rocks for the next day.

One villager said, she only gets one bucket of water a day because a lot of people come to fetch also from other surrounding communities and this make lives difficult.

As a reporter, when I arrived with the rest of my crew, we had to be served with coconuts because according to the village elder “Mr. Xefu Tsambashie” “their waters is not clean and we city dwellers cannot drink it”. As at now their only source of enough drinking water is a nearby shallow stream which collects water. According to residents the stream has got crocodiles breading in and this poses a greater threat to their children whenever they go to fetch water down.

The colour of the water is yellowish greenish brown, completely unhygienic for human consumption. Tick weeds had over grown the banks of the stream. The stream also causes guinea worm infestation after drinking the water but now due to some knowledgeable teachers of the village, they’ve been able to educate them to boil the water before drinking.

In other to dig more into the facts, The New Ghanaian Voice has also visited the stream and we must say that these people really need attentions.

Another problem is the poor nature of the road leading to the area which is also a major rout from Torda, Adaklu-Akatsixoe, Dorglobo- Dzramave, Avemadelaai, Agorkpo to Ziope even leading to Afloa all being market centers in the Districts. Due the difficulties driving to the village, tomato buyers or Market Queens from Kumasi and Accra don’t come to purchase from them anymore. They are therefore calling on to construct the road to in other to be able to transport their tomatoes and wood carvings to the markets in other to earn a living. The village elder Mr. Xefu Tsambashie also called on called on government to extend some loan faculties to them such as the Masloc and other financial aids. Though the electricity had been brought to the village under the rural electrification project, Mr. Xefu appealed on behalf of the people so that it can be brought closer to their house to get fully connected to the national grade

In terms of education, the village has been blessed with some good class room blocks. But left to be connected to electricity too in other to teach ICT with computers from the mobile library service of the Volta Regional library. Mr. Xefu the elder of the village is therefore using this opportunity to call on the government, The Adaklu-Anyigbe District Assembly and other NGO’s to their aid to repair or construct more boreholes in other to prevent any fatalities from occurring.
