Jerry Ameko, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Adaklu, on Thursday, appealed to the Police administration to urgently increase the number of personnel in the district to enhance peace and security.

He noted that the current 13 Police officers responsible for covering the vast land area of Adaklu and its more than 90 communities were insufficient, urging for the establishment of more Police posts.

Ameko made this plea when Madam Esther Buakumah, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Adaklu, visited Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, President of the Adaklu Traditional Council, at his palace in Adaklu Abuadi. The visit was intended to introduce the new Volta Regional Police Commander to the Adaklu Traditional Council and the DCE, although the chiefs were informed that the Regional Commander had been called to Accra at the last minute for an important national assignment.

The DCE urged citizens to support the Police by remaining vigilant in their communities and reporting any suspicious activity to ensure the safety of the area. He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility.

Ameko also announced plans to convene a District Security Council meeting to discuss the increasing threat posed by Fulani herdsmen and other security challenges in the district. He highlighted that some investors were planning to establish businesses in the district, which would improve agriculture and create job opportunities for the youth. He called on traditional authorities and landowners to facilitate the release of land to these investors.

Furthermore, Ameko addressed reports of Police personnel from other districts allegedly harassing drivers and traders in Adaklu, particularly during the Adaklu Waya animal market days, and extorting money from them. He urged the Regional Police Commander to take action against these "unpatriotic officers."

In addition, Ameko revealed that dormant quarries in the district would be revived and monitored to generate both employment and revenue for the district.

He took the opportunity to express gratitude to the President, the chiefs, and the Assembly members for their support and confidence in his leadership. Ameko pledged to work closely with them to elevate Adaklu, assuring that, with the guidance of traditional authorities and other stakeholders, he would take the district to new heights.

Togbe Agbobada IV, Senior Divisional Chief of Adaklu Anfoe, spoke on behalf of his fellow chiefs, expressing concern about negative portrayals of Adaklu and calling for collective effort to dispel these perceptions.

He expressed confidence that the government would address the district’s development needs and ensure it receives its fair share of national resources.

Togbe Agbobada also congratulated Ameko on his appointment as DCE and assured him of the chiefs' full support in realizing his vision for the district.

During the meeting, the chiefs presented various items to the Regional Police Commander through the Adaklu District Police Commander.

Present at the event were Sylvanus Plaha, the Adaklu District Coordinating Director; Mark Dodzi Hoenyekor, Presiding Member of the Adaklu District Assembly; other assembly members; and chiefs and queen mothers from the traditional council.
