Adansi traditional council lifts ban on funerals

Fomena (Ash), Feb 26, GNA - The Adansi Traditional Council on Saturday lifted its ban on the organization of funerals in the traditional area.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Council at Fomena, which was presided over by the acting President, Nana Assiama Guahyia Ababio, who is the chief of Edubiase Divisional Area. The Council had since September last year banned the organization of all funerals following the official announcement of the death of the Adansihene and President of the Council, Nana Ofori Agyemang II. As a result of the ban, the traditional area had only witnessed quiet burials of deceased relatives as any fun fair including drumming and dancing was considered a taboo. The Council did not give reasons for the lifting of the ban, but it was presumed that it was a way of allowing the public, which has been complaining a lot about the ban, to organize the funerals of their relatives.

The Council was silent about when the ban would be re-invoked since the date of the burial of the late Adansihene has not been announced.

Meanwhile, a lot of organizations, groups and individuals continue to sign the book of condolence opened at the Bonsra Afriyie palace at Fomena and also donate cash and drinks towards the burial of the chief. The latest to donate was Mr Joseph Afoakwa of Afoakwa Enterprises, Obuasi, who presented two crates of Guinness Stout, two cartons of beer and one crate of Malta Guinness plus 500,000 cedis. The late Adansihene died on July 15, 2005 after ruling for six-and-a-half years.
