Add study of HIV/AIDS to school syllabus

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 4, GNA- Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, has called for the addition of the study of HIV/AIDS to the school syllabus to help curb the spread of the pandemic among students. He called on assembly members, traditional authorities and unit committee members to sensitize the people about HIV/AIDS to prevent its spread.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu made the call when he briefed members of Nkoranza South District Assembly Social Services Sub-committee, on the state of education in the district, at Nkoranza. He expressed regret about the moral decadence among the youth and urged teachers to promote the formation of virgin clubs in schools and communities.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu asked community leaders to pay regular visits to schools to enable them to identify and address their challenges and advised teachers to live above reproach. Mr. George Franklin Effah, chairman of the sub-committee, said the group had received application letters from some youth seeking for financial assistance to further their education. He appealed to the assembly to support brilliant but needy school children to enable them to complete their education. Mr. Effah, who is also Assembly Member for the Akropong Electoral Area, urged parents to reduce their expenses on funerals and other social activities and invest in the education of their children.
