Address security threats – B.T Baba tells government

The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Benson Tongo Baba says President Akufo-Addo must help the nation find peace following the growing insecurity, and militancy that has plagued the country.

Mr. B.T Baba fears if the country’s leadership allows the general insecurity to fester, Ghana will soon plunge into anarchy, if care is not taken.

“There is general insecurity whether we like it or not and the government now has every responsibility to ensure law and order in this country without fear or favour,” the Talensi legislator said on Agoo TV’s Yensempa Morning Show.

His comment comes in the wake of the upsurge of lawlessness and mayhem recorded in parts of the country since the beginning of this year.

The government is contending with threats to security as the West African nation has seen more than necessary political crisis and cases of murder reported in the last five months.

The countries security agencies have not been spared in the episode of the insecurity soaring in Ghana with two security men including one military officer and a cop killed in cold blood in separate incidents, while civilians are also seriously under attack by unscrupulous persons.

Eventhough President Akufo-Addo has seized many opportunities on different platforms to condemn the state of disorder in the country, the potential threats to security have not subsided.

However, Mr. B.T Baba said it’s high time the government shows leadership by taking steps to cure the canker of security troubles and disturbances in the country.

“The activities of hooligans within the private security arm of the governing New Patriotic Party have spiraled into the general insecurity we see now. We have to accept that we have reached a state whereby there should be alert on our security before it becomes a canker which may be difficult to deal with,” he cautioned.
