Mr Emmanuel Ashie Moore, Member of Parliament for Adenta has observed that political tolerance is very important in Ghana, as a means to find solutions to the numerous problems, facing the country’s fledgling democracy.

“Failure to seek solutions to issues facing our democracy means we have failed to tolerate others’ political and religious beliefs, ways of being, and opinions, therefore resulting to dehumanisation, discrimination, ultimately violence and repression.

“I believe this will not be a wise step for a nation like Ghana to take,” he said.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf by Dr Fiona Gibson, Social and Business Consultant, during the launching of a book titled: “Man beyond the veil of Religion” authored by Moses D. Kanda, former student of Wisconsin International University.

It was on the theme: “Tolerance a key to unity and peace in contemporary society.”

The 165 page book touched on how sin impacted on human lives and prescribed Jesus Christ as a solution to the problem.

Mr Ashie Moore said tolerance is the key to unity and peaceful co-existence, explaining that to be tolerance of each other, Ghanaians should learn to love and respect different point of views.

He said tolerance is at the heart of living peacefully.

Mr Ashie Moore advocated peace education in Ghana and suggested the need for the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to introduce the subject into the education curriculum.

“I believe that peace education in Ghana, will inform students all over the country on the consequences of war, social injustice, the value of peaceful and just social structures that works to uphold and develop the nation’s social structures.

“In a contemporary society, peace education is centred on conflict resolution that focuses on the social-behavioural symptoms of conflict. It is therefore to train individuals like students to learn to resolve inter-personal disputes through techniques of negotiation and peer mediation,” he said.
