Vocal academic, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has called for the dissolution of the entire Akufo-Addo government, just like the Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was dissolved by the government a couple of weeks ago, for allowing 194 citizens to be killed on the Adentan-Madina highway.

“Listen to the Roads and Highways Ministry fumbling on Adom Fm. He is a total disaster and a failure. Running a ministry isn’t child’s play and propaganda. Dissolve the government like KNUST Governing Council”, the political science lecturer wrote on his Facebook wall on Friday, 9 November 2018.

Just on Thursday, a first-year student of the West Africa Senior High School got knocked down and died instantly under one of the many uncompleted footbridges over the highway.

The accident, the umpteenth one, sparked an instantaneous demonstration amidst burning of tyres and hurling of stones by the residents of the area, who had complained several times about the carnage they have endured for over 10 years as a result of the unusable footbridges.

Angered by the issue, Prof Gyampo said: “The government heard the complaints about the accidents on the Madina-Adentan road and did nothing until the people demonstrated and there were casualties including loss of lives and injuries inflicted by the police on people who were drawing attention to their plight”.

“Can we call for the dissolution of the government?” he asked.

Prof Gyampo urged Ghanaians to be “empowered to abandon their ‘Fama Nyame’ docility to ensure that governance focuses only on their interest”, adding that: “Governance without a sense of responsiveness is mis-governance”.
