Adjaho lauds Akatsi chiefs for peace in the area

Akatsi, March 1, GNA - Mr Doe Adjaho, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ave-Avenor, has lauded the chiefs and people of the Akatsi District for keeping the peace crucially needed to prosecute the daunting development programmes for the area.

He listed the challenges as poor roads, unimpressive educational performance, health, employment and potable water issues. Mr Adjaho was addressing a press conference organized by the Akatsi District Assembly on Monday to highlight its activities. Mr Adzaho, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, observe= d that the people could not afford to use precious time in resolving conflict= s and therefore charged the chiefs to resist igniting disputes. "Lessons from other parts of the country should be reminders," he said.

Mr Adjaho said government would not fail Ghanaians, adding that the Akatsi District was among 12 others to have District Hospitals and that wit= h funds being sourced from Brazil the 31 kilometer Akatsi-Ziope road would be constructed. Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Akatsi District Chief Executive, said 14 school projects had been completed with 14 others at different levels of construction.

He said with a grader acquired at Gh¢ 300,000, over 20 feeder roads, totalling 250 kilometers including Akatsi-Dakpa, Xevi-Metrikasa and Adzikame-Korve were reshaped.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe said 60 wells would be sunk this year by Life Wells International in addition to 20 already done. He said 231 communities had been connected to the national electricity grid and about 500 youths engaged in the National Youth Employment Programmes.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe said the assembly was putting up staff quarters for members and that it was also discussing with the Ghana Police Service for the construction of a modern police station and quarters for the District Police Commander. He said the assembly was extending similar support to other state institutions in the district.
